Monty wins UBS Hong Kong Open

Colin Montgomerie has won the UBS Hong Kong Open by one clear shot. Shooting a final round of 70, level par, allowing the Scotsman to have a total of 271, nine-under par.

Monty consoled a tearful Kingston after the South African threw away his one shot lead he had held for the duration of tournament after making a double bogey on the last hole.

"We all feel for him. Every golfer who plays the game feels for someone who doubles the last to lose. It has happened before and unfortunately it will happen again but on this occasion I am glad that I managed to take the spoils after that," said Montgomerie, 42.

Montgomerie’s victory was worth £116,584 and moved him to fifth on The European Tour Order of Merit as well as enforcing his strong position in the race for places in next year’s Ryder Cup Team. But more importantly, it pushed him back into the top ten on the Official World Golf Ranking at number nine.
