Archer leads in South Africa

England's Phillip Archer shot a clubhouse lead six-under-par 66 as a thunderstorm halted play in the first round of the Dunhill Championship at the Leopard Creek course in eastern South Africa.

Six birdies, was the highlight of Archers round on the bushveld course situated next to the country's famed Kruger Park game reserve.

Sweden's Jarmo Sandelin came in second on 67, with South Africa's Jaco van Zyl and Finland's Tuomas Tuo two strokes off the lead on 68.

Eight players, England's Gary Clark and David Carter, South Africans Trevor Immelman, Johan Kok, Louis Oosthuizen and Thomas Aiken, Zimbabwe's Sean Farrell and Toni Karjalainene of Finland, were bracketed on 69.

Play in the first round is scheduled to resume at 6:20 am (0420 GMT) Friday.
