2009 British Open: Turnberry


The Royal and Ancient Golf Club announced that Turnberry will be the venue for the 2009 British Open. The fourth time that the particular course has staged the event since it was added to the Open roster in 1977. The year being memorable for the 'Duel in the Sun' between Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus, eventually won by Watson by a single shot.

1986 saw Greg Norman lift the title at the course and the last time that Turnberry was used for the British Open was back in 1994 when Nick Price eventually won, after battling it out with Jesper Parnevik.

Turberry boasts two magnificent links courses, "the scene of the some of the most remarkable moments in Open history, the legendary Ailsa is complemented by the dynamic challenges of the new Kintyre championship course."
